So, I have figured out the current names for the six primordial gods. Rezar is actually Set. Cam is actually Ma'at. Verlyn is really Jaden. Braith is really Apollymi; Azura and Noir are still the same. There are several hints through out the series that lends credit to these findings. The only one that I'm not 100% sure on is Verlyn being Jaden.
Something that my husband pointed out to me, and I'm not sure what to make of it. If the Malachi gets stronger with every generation, then how is Jared still able to be the balance to him. Jared's powers never grow, he is the commander who turned on his brothers and is enslaved. So who is really more powerful and how is the balance not been thrown out of sync.
Also, there were hints at the time shift even before it was mentioned in Styxx. Madoc was mentioned at the end of Dream Warrior as being related to the Malachi, we learn in CON that Ambrose from the future wasn't supposed to have a brother. Also, Acheron follows that Tory was 10 when Theron died.
Spoilers again! =)
ReplyDeleteKatie, I'm with you on the identities of the primal gods. =) I'm about 98% certain that Verlyn is indeed actually Jaden; frankly, the "Verlyn" we met in The Guardian just didn't quite add up for me (he struck me as being ... well, sort of brainless, if that makes any sense). I also think that "Verlyn" is a part of Jaden, somehow.
And silly me, I had more of a "well, duh" moment rather than an "aha" moment when I finally realized Cam's identity after reading Dark Bites. =)
About Jared ... that's a good question, one I hadn't thought on too much. Then again, considering that previous Malachais were kept enslaved by Noir, it could be that it wasn't an issue for the longest time. (I get the impression that Adarian was the first Malachai to escape Noir.) But I'd say that the Malachai is far more powerful, especially now.
And speaking of balance ... something else that grabbed my attention was at the end of Styxx's book, when Noir and Azura were talking about the return of Rezar, and the reunion of Bathymaas and Aricles. Noir's inner monologue mentions that with Bathymaas being freed, the Malachai can't be far behind, and that the balance must always be maintained. This gives me the impression that Bathymaas somehow figures into the balance of power (perhaps she was the actual balance to the first Malachai?).
About Madoc's existence. For the longest time, I thought that it was pretty much an accident that Madoc lived "under the radar", so to speak, for so long ... until I read Illusion. After reading about the Mashuan and the Mashuani, I found it rather interesting that it was mentioned that the Malachai who could be turned to good, would have a brother who would fight by his side. Especially since the author mentioned on the official site that before Madoc's book could be written, certain things had to happen. =)
Tory's age when her father died, wasn't the only thing that grabbed my attention when I read Acheron's book and then Dream Hunter (yeah, I read them out of order, lol). The other thing I noticed, was that Tory seemed ... different between the two books. In Dream Hunter, she was an outright slob, yet in Acheron she was OCD and super-organized (the part where Acheron notices the organization of her refrigerator always makes me chuckle). There are probably other differences, but I'd have to read Dream Hunter again to find them. =)
Perhaps those extra four years with her father made a huge impact on her habits? Possible, I think. I also can't help thinking that perhaps Tory's presence in the DH world is a game-changer, if you will, in how the future is affected. Could be wrong on that, though.
Other things I noticed: In Acheron's book, Styxx is listed as being at Acheron's wedding, yet in Styxx's book, nobody seems to have any memory of it whatsoever. I haven't decided yet if that indicates anything about a time shift, or if Acheron simply has a faulty memory in that regard.
Also, Nick's age seems to change as the series progresses. It is indicated in Night Pleasures that he is 24, and I'm unsure as to whether he's 28 or only 26 when he dies in Seize the Night. Makes me wonder just how many timeline shifts we're seeing there. =)
But in my mind, the biggest confusion seems to center around the events in New Orleans, when Styxx stabbed Acheron. So far, we seem to have two different years as to when that happened, not to mention that Wulf and Cassandra's book seems to be a bit out of synch in that I got the impression that it was supposed to be happening concurrently to Night Embrace, yet later in the book, events seem to be happening ... later. Or I could simply be confused there, lol.
Or ,... it could be an indication of a MAJOR change of events there as further timeline shifts are uncovered. ;)
Spoiler alert! Jaden = Verlyn is confirm on Invision
